Join the Dominican Healthcare Ministry for the St. Gianna Mass on Thursday, May 16th at 6:30pm, offered for couples suffering infertility and miscarriage.
St. Gianna Berretta Molla is the patron of mothers, physicians, and unborn children. St. Gianna, born in Italy in 1922, was a pediatric physician and mother of three children: Pierluigi, Mariolina, and Laura. Two later pregnancies ended in miscarriage. In her sixth and final pregnancy, doctors discovered that Gianna had both a child and a tumor in her uterus. She allowed the surgeons to remove the tumor but not to perform the complete hysterectomy that they recommended, which would have killed the child. Seven months later in April 1962, Gianna Emanuela Molla was born at the hospital in Monza, but post-operative complications resulted in an infection for her mother. The following week St. Gianna Molla died at home. Her daughter Gianna Emanuela would go on to become a physician herself.
The St. Gianna Mass is offered for all couples suffering infertility and miscarriage, and is co-hosted by the Gianna Center for Women’s Health and Fertility and the Archdiocese of New York Office of Family Life.
Mass will be followed by the veneration of the relics of St. Gianna, a reception, and the opportunity to meet privately with physicians and practitioners from the Gianna Center who specialize in assisting couples with infertility. Spanish speaking practitioners will be available.
